There is a big difference between not storing fat and actually burning fat

Many people think reducing fat storage and burning fat are the same thing, but they are not.

The first part is reducing fat storage. When you eat a lot of sugar or high-carbohydrate foods, especially processed and high glycemic carbs, your insulin rises. Insulin is a storage hormone. When insulin stays high too often, the body will turn to fat storing mode instead of using it. If you choose to have carbs, always choose lower glycemic carbs for steadier insulin levels.

The second part is burning fat. Fat burning happens when your body starts tapping into its own fat stores for energy instead of depending mainly on sugar from food. This usually happens when:

  • You move more and use more energy throughout the day

  • You have longer gaps between meals

  • Your body is not constantly receiving sugar or snacks all day

Every time you eat, especially high-carb foods, your body will first use that food as energy. But when there is a longer gap between meals, the body has more opportunity to switch and tap into stored body fat for energy instead.

This is why the longest fasting period is usually from your last meal at night to your first meal the next day. During this time, your body has a better chance to continue using stored fat for energy.

So, if your goal is better fat burning, focus on these 3 things:

  1. Move more - Daily walks, movement, and exercise increase energy expenditure and help the body use more stored fat for energy.

  2. Build muscle - Strength training improves insulin sensitivity. Muscle acts like a sponge that helps absorb sugar better, reducing excess sugar being stored as fat.

  3. Reduce constant sugar and high-carb intake - Too much sugar too often keeps insulin high and makes it harder for the body to tap into fat stores. Especially between meals. Reduce the frequency of snacking between meals.

Your body is constantly using something for energy. Either the sugar from your previous meal or the fat reserves stored in your body.

You choose.

The real question is:

Is your body constantly depending on sugar coming in from food…Or do you want your body to tap into its own stored fat for energy too?
